Dogs of the Month: Casper and Cooper - Brothers and Best Friends

Casper and Cooper were pulled from a high kill shelter when they were just a few weeks old, along with their mother and 7 other siblings.  They are now 1 year and 7 months old. They are housebroken and love each other very much. They get along fine with cats and other dogs.

The foster mom does not want to break them up so if you can welcome these Brothers & Best Friends into your home, we would be forever grateful.

As our featured Pets of the Month, adoption fees are half the normal amount. However, if you don't have room for another kitty or doggie and would like to sponsor instead, please call 706-781-3992 or email for more information.

Cat of the Month: Precious

Meet our Cat of the Month: Precious is mostly white with some loving splashings of black and tabby.  He is medium haired and silky coated.  He has great big eyes and is just gorgeous.  He is very sweet natured, well-mannered, and social with other cats.  Precious and his brother Bandit came to us together but can be adopted seperately.  This big boy would love to be your baby!  If you are looking for a quiet, lovely lap cat, don't miss out on Precious.

As our featured Pets of the Month, adoption fees are half the normal amount. However, if you don't have room for another kitty or doggie and would like to sponsor instead, please call 706-781-3992 or email for more information.

Castaway Critters Pet Rescue awarded $$$$ grant

Castaway Critters Pet Rescue awarded $$$$ grant from
Best Friends Animal Society®, PetSmart Charities®

Grant will support Castaway Critters Pet Rescue’s lifesaving work for homeless pets

Blairsville, GA, October 2012 ─ Best Friends Animal Society® in partnership with PetSmart Charities®  is pleased to announce that Castaway Critters Pet Rescue has been awarded a grant for their transport initiative.

Castaway Critters Pet Rescue is a participating member of the No More Homeless Pets® Network, a program of Best Friends Animal Society, which offers help and support to animal rescue groups that save lives in their communities.

“This grant project definitely targets animals that are most at-risk to be killed and provides an innovated solution to save their lives while working toward the Best Friends mission of No More Homeless Pets,” said Ellen Gilmore, manager of Best Friends’ No More Homeless Pets Network.

Nancy Ede, Secretary of the Board of Directors for Castaway Critters Pet Rescue, said: “This grant means that we can add more dogs from high kill shelters and animal control facilities to our transports north to New Jersey and North Carolina, a big boost to our efforts this year to find forever homes for deserving rescued pets.  Our goal will be to adopt out 400 dogs and cats to loving families. We appreciate the support of Best Friends Animal Society and PetSmart Charities in making our transport initiative possible.”

This lifesaving grant is part of Best Friends Animal Society’s mission of No More Homeless Pets®. Every day, approximately 9,000 pets are killed in shelters because they don’t have a home. Best Friends Animal Society and PetSmart Charities are committed to saving them.

Your great idea could earn you $100 cash!

Castaway Critters Pet Rescue needs to change its name, so the shelter is holding a contest. Between now and November 17, you can suggest a creative new name for the Blairsville no-kill shelter. If your suggestion is chosen, you’ll receive $100 cash and the satisfaction of naming an important organization.

There are two ways to submit a name. You can write your suggestion on a piece of paper (along with your name, contact information, and the date and time) and drop it off at Blairsville Bible, Office, and School Supplies; or you can post your suggestion on Facebook at www.facebook.com/NewNameForCastawayCritters. Just “like” the page, and post your suggestion. You may enter as many suggestions as you want.

The new name must not already be in use by another rescue group. You should do an Internet search of your suggested name before submitting it just to be sure. Also, the name can’t be similar to Castaway Critters (such as Kastaway Kritters, Castaway, Castaway Creatures, etc.). If the winning name is submitted by more than one person, the person who submitted it first will win the $100 and get credit for the name. The Castaway Critters board members will select the winning name.

Castaway Critters Pet Rescue is a private, non-profit rescue shelter in Blairsville. Castaway Critters has been saving dogs and cats since 2006. Now the shelter has to change its name to avoid possible trademark infringement and marketing conflicts with a rescue group in Pennsylvania, which was formed before Castaway Critters Pet Rescue, Inc. in Blairsville, and whose name also contains the words Castaway Critters. The local rescue group will have the same mission as always, just a different name.

The cash prize for this contest was donated by individual Castaway Critters volunteers.
