Patches got adopted last weekend! Here she is with her new "brother"!







Sir Winston was also adopted and will join his brother Sir William, who was adopted last week.





Rico, the Featured Cat of the Month, got adopted! Whoohoo! The woman who adopted him saw his gorgeous picture in the newspaper.

She also adopted Willis (yay!) because those two are buddies and she didn't want to separate them. They will be kept inside and will get love and attention 24/7.

Three Stray Puppies

About a week ago on a Sunday afternoon, three puppies were found in a doctor's office parking lot in Hiawassee. They are about 1 1/2 months old, all males, and had a lot of ticks in their ears… poor babies. So one of our volunteers brought them to the shelter to clean them up, deworm them, vaccinate them and gave them a good flea bath. We named them Wilbur, Wilson and Wilfred and they certainly feel much better now than they did! In another couple of weeks they'll be ready for adoption, so if you're interested in giving one of these adorable little pups a loving forever home give us a call at 706-781-3992!

Taffy - Featured Dog of the Month

This pretty young adult female is Taffy, a Pit Bull mix. Don't let her breed scare you, she is so sweet and such a love. She has so many wonderful qualities: she LOVES people and children, belly rubs, hamburgers, attention and spending time with her favorite people inside the home. She is loyal and eager to please. Taffy is house broken, spayed and vaccinated. She would need a fenced yard for outdoor playtime and a comfy bed inside is on her wish list, too. She doesn't like some dogs, so she would be best as the only one in the home. She has been at the shelter far too long and needs someone who will just give her a chance. Maybe you can be her hero! Rhonda is a Shy Kitty

Rhonda is one of our shy cats. She came to the shelter as a half-grown kitten and has never wanted to be held or loved on. She is comfortable around people as long as they don’t approach too close – otherwise she will run! However, Rhonda certainly has the potential of being a lovely companion to a special person in a quiet household. If you have the time and patience to give Rhonda the attention she needs, please consider giving her a place in your home and heart. Rhonda is spayed, current on shots, well behaved and litter box trained. And her weakness is kitty treats -- she is quite brave when it’s treat time!

Snuggles Could Use a Sponsor

Snuggles the cat lived his entire life in a filthy outdoor rabbit cage with no attention and minimal care. When we found him, his lovely black and white coat was so stained he had to be body shaved because there was nothing else we could do to properly clean him up. Since he's been with us, Snuggles has come to love to be petted and can also be picked up. He is not aggressive but is distrustful of people he doesn’t know. Snuggles has a quiet and well mannered disposition, uses the litter box and has had his vaccinations. Snuggles sure could use a sponsor or a very special person to give him a forever home. Coal Loves to be Loved

This gorgeous black kitty was the last cat trapped from a hoarder situation because he was the only one not kept in a cage. Instead, Coal was living under a board. He had no socialization at all and was completely wild when we found him. He hissed and growled at anyone who approached, he was so scared. However, our cat team was ultimately able to win his trust and now Coal is a sweet attention-hog and loves to be loved. He is well mannered, very social and never hides. Coal is a young adult, neutered, up-to-date on shots, and is litter box trained. He does have one little quirk though…he loves to drag water bowls around!

Everyone Knows Gunther the Dog

Dear friends,

This July marks one year and three months since we adopted Gunther in April 2010.

Gunther was at first very frightened and quite skittish. Within months he blossomed into a very confident and outgoing companion. This e-mail is to update you on Gunther’s continued maturity. He brings us more love and joy than we could ever have expected.

Gunther braved the worst winter Connecticut has had in 50 years. With 6-inches of snow on the ground Gunther frolicked like a puppy. With 50+ inches of snow on the ground, he was less frolicky and more bemused at how he would manage our many walks. Well, he did just fine.

As the snow melted we continued to bring Gunther everywhere with us. The next town over from ours is a very quaint New England town with a terrific green and lovely shops on brick sidewalks along tree-lined streets. There are shoppers and people everywhere. Gunther has become the unofficial mayor of this town. Everyone knows Gunther and he is showered with affection on every walk thru town. Gunther is even welcomed into the town hall where the clerks always encourage him to enter the building for a treat.

We have made many friends with retirees that have dogs, and it is the rarest day when Gunther is not walking with his canine friends. Our walking companions get a kick out of Gunther’s habit of trying to herd the group into a nice tight unit! It must be the part Border Collie and/or Australian Sheepdog in him!

Once again, we are beyond grateful for the love you showed Gunther. You saved his life, and now, he is living the life he is so deserving of. We hope you share in our joy at seeing Gunther grow into a “fine young man!”
