Cindy Lou and Mary Lou

A few days ago, a woman saw what she thought was a deer walking toward her home. At first she didn't think anything of it, but something seemed "off" so she decided to take a closer look… and thank heavens she did! She realized what she was looking at was an extremely malnourished adult dog that needed help quickly in order to survive, as well as a younger, smaller dog that seemed to be keeping the adult dog company. So the woman immediately gave food and water to these two poor dogs and let them spend the night on her property. Meanwhile, she knew they needed to receive medical assistance that was beyond what she could provide, so she contacted Castaway Critters.

Castaway Critters Pet Rescue sprang into action and what they found was this forlorn hound dog with very sweet eyes who was just - literally - skin and bones.  She had ticks all over her body including inside her ears and between her toes, and her eyes were so caked with gunk she could barely open them.  Castaway Critters took both dogs to the vet for evaluations, each was treated for the usual, and fortunately no other medical conditions were discovered.

Cindy Lou (the skinny dog in these photos) and Mary Lou (the little brown one) are kind dogs. They are now safe, being fed, and receiving lots of love from volunteers… and this will continue until a forever home is found for both of them. Cindy Lou is obviously appreciative for what she is receiving because she likes to place her head in the hands of her caretakers and says "thank you so much" with her big brown eyes.

We will never know Cindy Lou's story and just how she ended up homeless and wondering the streets with her little friend, but she certainly deserves a second chance at knowing what it's like to have a loving family providing for and doting on her. If you happen to believe you're that person, please call us for more information at 706-781-3992 or email castaway_critters @ hotmail.com.

Happy Tails: Ranger & Copper

These 2 big beautiful boys were turned into us because their family couldn't keep them any longer. We took them to PetCo and this wonderful family adopted both of them so as to not break them up!  The boys had always been together. They were a wonderful family, and love our dogs. They go above and beyond being a great dog family. Our boys and their family will be moving to Ohio next month and she tells me they will have a huge area in which to run and play.

As relayed by one of our volunteers.

Happy Tails: Dora

We received a note from Andria: We have Dora and she is a card!  She can't resist my drinking straws, if I leave one in my glass it isn't there when I return!  She amazes us with her love of sparkly balls and toy mice and her ability to fling them like they are alive.  She is soooooo sweet & we just adore her.

Happy Tails: Cooper

Cooper (Tigger) is one of the most unique cats I have ever had. He is extremely entertaining and there is not one person that enters this house that doesn't smile or yell at him. Haha. He is more like a dog. When someone comes to the door my other 3 cats disappear. Cooper runs to the door.  He steals food off plates. He goes in the garbage can. He investigates everything.  I have pictures of him in my linen closet, oven, freezer, washer, dryer, Christmas tree (I now need a new one), and he has been on the pipes in the basement ceiling. But I wouldn't change a thing. I love him so much and I can't imagine my life without him. He has become the alpha cat. (Well, I am the alpha cat, haha ). He is my best friend. Something told me to pick him and I am so happy I did.

Dog of the Month: Beatrice

Beatrice is a very lovable female Pit bull mix. She came to CCPR as a pregnant stray that was scared and left to fend for herself. Shortly after we took her in, she gave birth to 12 beautiful pups and was a good mom.

Beatrice is very calm and loves to be cuddled. She enjoys being petted and having her ears rubbed. If you ever wanted to have a big loveable lap dog, this is your girl!

Beatrice is about 1+ years old and approximately 50 pounds. She is spayed, current on all vaccination and has tested negative for heartworms. This beautiful dog needs a home with people that will give her attention and lots of love, but she would do best in a single-dog environment.

As our featured Pet of the Month, adoption fees are half the normal amount. Please call 706-781-3992 or email for more information.

Cat of the Month: Marie

This is Marie, a very sweet and affectionate 3-year old female who was adopted from us as a kitten and had to be returned due to her person's failing health.

Marie has beautiful coloring and eyes, is well mannered and friendly to all.  She lived as an only cat and would do best in home where she could be the 'one and only' but would do okay with a mild tempered cat.

Please help Marie find her new and forever home!

As our featured Pet of the Month, adoption fees are half the normal amount! If you have the puuurfect home for Marie, please call 706-781-3992 or email for more information.

Sponsor a Castaway Critter

Sponsor a Pet: Be a Guardian Angel!

At some point every rescue or no-kill shelter is faced with the issue of what to do with long-term residents that have not been adopted.  Castaway Critters Pet Rescue knows what we have to do: continue to provide space, love and comfort for these special ones.  We will never turn our backs to them!  We love them and are committed to their well-being, but unfortunately money is in short supply.

Castaway Critters asks those of you who cannot bring a pet into your homes, or those whose homes are already filled with dogs and cats, to please sponsor one of our long-term animals. Sponsorship can be a one-time or monthly donation. Either way, you will be helping Castaway Critters Pet Rescue provide for lovable companion animals who can really use your support.
